About Safeguarding Context
Safeguarding Context is made by Meddalwedd, a small software business that publishes public data about places in a form people can act on.
The rule
The report describes the context around a school: the streets, the routes children take, the roads at the gate and the neighbourhood the public data can speak to. It never rates the school or its pupils. There is no league table, no comparison between named schools on a public page, and nothing that describes a school as dangerous.
Two services from one company
Meddalwedd runs two services that share their data and answer different questions. UK Crime Statistics describes places: what is recorded around any address in England and Wales, mapped street by street and scored against comparable neighbourhoods, for anyone who wants the figures for a place. Safeguarding Context describes duties: what the surroundings of one school mean for its safeguarding responsibilities, in the words of Keeping Children Safe in Education or Keeping Learners Safe, ending in the paragraphs the policy, the governors and the inspector need.
The recorded picture at the gate in every report comes from UK Crime Statistics and is credited to it. The road danger, exploitation indicators, deprivation and air quality chapters are evidence a crime map does not carry. If you want crime figures for an address, use UK Crime Statistics. If you have a safeguarding duty for a named school, this is the service for it. They are built to be used together, never compared.
The data promise
Every figure comes from a published dataset with a licence that allows reuse, and every page prints the attribution the licence requires and the limits of what the data can show. Quiet areas are described as quiet, with the data that shows it. Fields that could identify or profile individuals are never surfaced.
