Why it exists

The evidence a safeguarding lead needs about the area around a school or college is public, but it is scattered across a dozen sources and never written in the guidance's words. Gathering it by hand takes a day or two, every year.

We gather it for each site, quote the guidance it answers, and write it into the documents where it is used.

The rules we keep

They hold in every report, briefing and dashboard, for every school, college and setting.

• The area, never youIt describes the streets, stops and places around your site and what is recorded there. It never rates the school, its staff or its children, so nothing in it can be read as a judgement of you.
• The guidance, word for wordEach safeguarding chapter opens with the passage of the statutory guidance or inspection framework it answers, quoted exactly with its edition and paragraph, so you can show an inspector where each duty is met.
• Quiet is reported as quietWhere little is recorded, the report says so plainly. It never goes looking for something to worry about, and a low count is evidence for your governors too.
• No small numbersA count below three is printed as "fewer than 3", so no figure can point to a child or a family, and a small rural catchment is never made to look alarming.
• Every figure shows its limitsEach figure names its source and the period it covers, and every chapter sets out what its data cannot show, so nothing is claimed beyond the evidence.
• Context is labelled as contextEvidence the guidance does not ask for, such as road collisions at the gate, sits under its own heading, so it is never mistaken for a safeguarding duty.
• Safe to publishThe paragraph for your child protection policy names no counts, streets or places, so it can go on your website. The detail stays in the context statement for staff and governors.
• The right framework for each nationA school in England is written to Keeping children safe in education and Ofsted; a school in Wales to Keeping learners safe and Estyn, and never to Ofsted.
