Police data from UK Crime Statistics
UK Crime Statistics builds its safeguarding analysis with security professionals and data scientists. It weights drugs and weapons offences most heavily, as the strongest recorded signs of exploitation, and its county lines indicator checks drug offences against weapons and anti-social behaviour so a real pattern is not hidden by busy streets. From UK Crime Statistics, every report takes:
- Every recorded incident within a mile, over 24 months
- The county lines indicator, with every input it read
- The streets where incidents recur
- A ranking against every one-mile area in England and Wales
- The month each figure runs to
- A flag when an area cannot fairly be ranked
They describe places; we describe what places mean for your safeguarding duties. Every report credits their analysis.
What we do, and what we do not
We do
- The area around your site
- Your authority, beside England or Wales
- Your local referral routes, checked weekly
- Documents ready to adapt
- A fresh edition every year
We do not
- Identify or record any child
- Manage concerns or cases
- Rate schools or predict inspections
- Survey pupils
- Replace training or advice
Public data cannot describe a child, so we never try. Your own records and staff do that.
